Glensound Electronics Ltd was established in 1966 by BBC engineer Len Davis, who had left the BBC’s Designs department to focus on his own successful PA company full time. The BBC commissioned Len to design and manufacture a specialist audio broadcast unit for use at Prince Charles’ investiture. This became the first of many custom-designed products Glensound has produced for the BBC.

Custom designs and solutions are still a major part of operations today, designed and manufactured at our own premises in Maidstone, Kent and joined now by key lines of tried and tested products in various areas of the audio broadcast industry.  We are considered to be the leading supplier of commentary and broadcast audio products in Europe and with annual sales in excess of $3 million, we are at the forefront of innovative design and manufacture of quality audio broadcast equipment.

Glensound Ltd is pleased to introduce the Beatrice Intercom System. This fully digital system with Dante IP-based compatibility delivers crystal clear audio quality combined with versatile, easy to use units and the proven performance with which Glensound products have long been associated. Fully compatible with other manufacturers’ equipment, the Beatrice Intercom System makes an outstanding choice for broadcast, theatre, and professional audio applications. Audio professionals will find much to like in the rich feature set of the Beatrice Intercoms, and in their compatibility with other manufacturers’ systems. The Beatrice Intercom System incorporates five units: the B4 beltpack, the D4 desktop, the R4 rackmount, the R8 rackmount, and the D8 desktop. Each Beatrice intercom unit offers 48 kHz full digital operation for pristine audio performance, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and/or AC Mains, low noise microphone amps, support for the Dante network audio transmission protocol, AES67 compliance (R8/D8 only), plus intuitive operation. The Beatrice B4 Beltpack Intercom is the ideal unit for production staff who are constantly on the move. Featuring 4 channels, the B4 incorporates presence LEDs to indicate incoming audio, a microphone amplifier with compressor, plus a high output headphone amplifier suitable for both headphones and earpieces. The Beatrice D4 Desktop Intercom is designed to include all the basic functionality required for small intercom systems and may be powered by PoE or AC Mains. It features LCD displays, a high quality loudspeaker, and signal presence and Call LEDs. The Beatrice R4 Rackmount Intercom features a bright and clear LCD display, a high quality loudspeaker, presence LEDs to indicate incoming audio, and front panel controls. The Beatrice R8 Rackmount Intercom is expandable to 16 channels, accomplished by interconnecting two R8 units with a pair of S/PDIF cables. Another key feature includes 12 loop closure inputs, 10 of which control the talk keys, the other 2 providing internal and external LS cuts. The Beatrice D8 Desktop Intercom offers 8 channels and shares expansion capabilities identical to the R8. It includes a mixer matrix for establishing complex groups and party line circuits that cannot be achieved via Dante Controller or an AES67 router.
