Freelancers' Fair: the place to be for film & TV workers

Speaker line-up includes representatives from BAFTA, Doc Society, Drone Training, FreeAgent, BBC, Indie Training Fund, ITV, National Film and TV School and Raindance

The Freelancers’ Fair, BECTU’s annual open event for freelancers in film and TV, is just weeks away. Join them on Friday 21st June in central London for lively debates and active support on the range of issues freelancers care about. Practical advice on career progression combines with insights into a number of current production challenges. One day, packed with industry experts, delivered in an atmosphere of mutual support and with a networking social to seal the day. There’s a lot to love!

Wide range of seminars - which will you choose?

Be part of a drone masterclass led by Elliott Corke (Drone Training) with insights from some of the best drone cinematographers in the business; or if your interest is in finding and funding industry training meet our experts in the session The good, the bad and the exploited.

They will also be showcasing a group of diverse film-makers who’ve made their mark despite the inequality which continues to dog the sector; find out how they cut through and be inspired. Climate change savvy production makes its programme debut too and they’ll be treating visitors to an exchange about making films on your mobile.

Tax features on this year’s programme as well with a special lunchtime session, led by new sponsor FreeAgent, on how to handle Making Tax Digital.

We ask too, whilst online platforms are providing a fresh approach to content, how can new entrants protect themselves from exploitation? Join our panel of innovators to get to grips with the issues.

Or you can choose to discuss pitching and commissioning trends at Commissioning Live! with the heads of commissioning from BBC Factual, Alison Kirkham and BBC Three Carl Callam and commissioning editor, ITV Daytime, Lara Akeju.

And last but not least, take a look at Radical Film: community and collective film-making a session on authorship, skill-sharing and alternative models of film-making and distribution. Our panel of guest speakers, which includes Lisa Marie Russo from Doc Society, guarantees a session full of insights.
