APC Time and Meinberg help broadcasters evolve to all IP workflow at BVE 2019

This February the UK’s largest broadcast, production and media technology event will be taking place at London’s ExCel. Between 26-28th Feb more than 12,000 visitors will be there to see the newest kit, the latest technologies and listen to more than 200 visionary speakers – and hopefully visit APC Time and Meinberg on Stand C54.

Why come and see us?

Answer: because we are at the cutting edge of technologies that can help you transition to a full IP based production. Technology has always developed at pace within the industry, currently broadcasters are evolving from traditional video/audio signal distribution like SDI for video, AES for audio and dedicated Genlock/Wordclock signals, towards a full IP based production as described in the SMPTE suite of standards for Professional Media over IP Networks (SMPTE ST 2110).

Using PTP for time synchronisation in IP broadcast

IEEE 1588 (PTP) is the selected technology for synchronising studio equipment over IP. Meinberg plays a vital role in this environment and its LANTIME IMS time servers have been designed to enable coexistence and interoperability of traditional (Black-Burst, Tri-Level Sync, AES Word-Clock) PTP synchronisation methods of professional audio/video equipment in a dedicated IP or hybrid environment.

At BVE, we will be showcasing the Meinberg LANTIME IMS time servers, which provide highly accurate time and frequency, derived from GNSS satellites for legacy and IP-connected devices in parallel. These systems offer redundancy, flexibility and the ability to swap cards, so that the user can have the desired configuration in one unit.

By supporting multiple input sources, the LANTIME time servers accept GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, PTP, NTP, SyncE, 1PPS, IRIG Time Code or 10MHz as possible synchronisation inputs.

The modular approach of the IMS platform allows field-replacement and hot-swap capabilities for IO modules and power supplies which makes this product platform one of the most scalable and flexible synchronisation solutions on the market.

A complete time sync solution

For more than 15 years APC Time has been working in partnership with Meinberg to bring time and frequency synchronisation solutions to customers in the UK and Ireland. In addition to Meinberg, APC Time offers a wide range of complementary technologies from global leading manufacturers. Solutions include PTP compliant switches and NIC’s from Oregano and Arista, GNSS simulation systems and reference clocks from Pendulum Instruments, GNSS signal distribution solutions from GPS Source, as well as Calnex PTP test and measurement solutions.
